It is thanksgiving weekend, that means I have a little break to relax and enjoy my time with my son before I begin studying for midterms and writing papers for upcoming assignments. That's life right now, and I wouldn't have it any other way. This thanksgiving, I give thanks to the people who support me and empower me. I am thankful for the standards in which I strive to ensure a happy life for myself and my son. I am thankful for this place we call home, and the security and comfort we feel here. And I am thankful for a life free of toxicity, something we are all entitled to.
I've been attending school for a month and a half, and it has been going very well. I am almost a quarter way finished my first year of social work. College, in my opinion is so much easier than high school. Its a place where I want to be, and be successful. I put a lot more effort into attending and making sure my work is well done. Even with a child, and balancing motherhood and college life, I still consider it to be so much more manageable than high school. My instructors are encouraging, and they're a great support system to have. They're also very admirable and inspiring, especially to consider how well educated they are, a lot of them with families, and being social workers, they advocate for things they believe in. This program has opened my eyes to inequality and injustice in society, and I hope one day my passion for change will somehow make a difference.
Holidays away from home will be different this year, but I am determined to make the best of them. We're looking forward to Halloween and Christmas. I will have Taylor's costume ordered by next week. My sons Godmother and I are planning a holiday getaway to Whistler, depending on her schedule, let's invest in experiences, rather than things! :D
